Introduction to Beekeeping Course 2023

The “Introduction to Beekeeping” course is ideal for anyone who would like to keep honeybees. It provides comprehensive advice on how to start as a beekeeper.  The course runs in April and is held over a weekend.  There are two dates to choose from (2/3 April or 9/10 April). It provides each participant with the skills and knowledge to enjoy keeping bees safely and confidently.

The course will cover the basics of honeybee behaviour, and how, as a beekeeper, you house and care for the bees.  You will receive advice on buying bees and equipment. It includes a hands-on session on how to assemble a frame. You will also visit our training apiary, subject to fine weather, where you will observe how to handle bees and equipment. Swarm management is also explained fully.

Those who subsequently join the branch can request the support of a mentor. Once the weather is warm enough for the bees to be flying trainees can attend branch training apiary sessions and handle live bees.  Being a member of Warwick & Leamington Beekeepers  is not a pre-requisite to joining Introduction to Beekeeping
