Beekeeping Taster Day
WLBK offer a one day beekeeping taster day for those assessing whether keeping bees is viable in their particular circumstances. Delegates have an opportunity to handle bees (but certainly don't have to!), provided the weather is suitable. Furthermore, as well as background information about bees, the event covers practical considerations such as equipment required, where to obtain it & costs. We provide information about the annual beekeeping husbandry process, how much time it takes, and where bees can be kept.
Our Taster Day is aimed at giving you an overview of what keeping bees involves thereby helping you decide whether or not you would like to take up this fascinating hobby.
Covering :
- The honey bee’s characteristics and organisation
- What’s inside a hive
- Where bees can be kept
- The equipment required
- The cost and time involved
- What the beekeeper has to do throughout the year.
There is usually, subject to the weather, also an opportunity, to get close to some bees under the supervision of a beekeeper.
This year's Taster Day took place at BBKA Headquarters at Stoneleigh on Sunday the 1st of September.
